Here is a detailed list of events and tournaments through October, then a summary list for the remainder of the year...please join us at Coffee Bluff Marina as we usher in some great Fall fishing right around the corner!!
1. On Saturday, September 11th, we will host the continued and storied Crabbing Festival and Tournament! We are bringing it back to Coffee Bluff Marina!! This will be the return of Coffee Bluff Sport Crabbers Association's 14th Annual Sport Crabbers Tournament & Festival!! You are cordially invited to wind down the summer and participate in this ritual tournament that has been missing for 8 years! Weigh-in will begin at 4 pm and the events will take place at 4:30 pm. Awards will be given for: Largest Crab, Youngest Angler, Ugliest Crab, Best Dressed Crab, Fastest Crab, Heaviest Boat, and Most Crabs on one line with one chicken neck at the same time! A delicious Blue Crab Feast will immediatedly follow the Fastest Crab event...hot dogs will also be served for those not wishing to eat crabs! Entry fee is $5 per angler, and includes the meal. T-shirts for the event will be available for purchase leading up to the event, and a captain's meeting will be held Friday, September 10th, at 6 pm. We'll also use this date to crown the '09-'10 Derby winner, and kick off the 2nd Annual Coffee Bluff Marina Fish Derby. This will be a lot of fun, so hold on tight!
2. On Wednesday, September 15th, we are offering an Educational Trip to Ossabaw Island! This is an opportunity that rarely comes around....we'll depart from Coffee Bluff Marina at 9:30 am and explore some marshland on the way to Ossabaw Island, where we'll be met by Naturalist and On-Island Coordinator, Jim Bitler. Jim will explain the history of this unique island jewel which was designated in 1978 as the first Georgia State Heritage Preserve. We will explore the historic North End Plantation site and get an update on the preservation and restoration of the tabby slave quarters which recently received national attention. The total time expected on Ossabaw Island itself is roughly 2 hours, and expect a one hour roundtrip boat ride. This is a rare opportunity and the cost per passenger is $85, which includes all Ossabaw Foundation fees, guide fees, and transportation. We have 2 remaining dates after today to conduct these trips...after today's trip, our future dates are October 20th and November 17th.
3. On Saturday, September 18th, Team Coffee Bluff will descend upon Lake Oconee for the 4th and Final leg of the Kayak Tournament Trail. Team Coffee Bluff is currently in 2nd Place overall after commanding the coastal event with 5 members placing in the top 6 positions! We are a mere 64 points out of 1st place after gaining 158 points from July's coastal event with such a strong showing! The race is tight for Team Coffee Bluff to bring home the state honors! Three of our team members, Kevin Kappell, Ray Golden, and Dr. Jerry Case, are also in the running for individual honors by being 4th, 5th, and 6th place overall individually. The overall individual top 3 finishers receive cash prizes!

The format for this date is a 3 Trout Weigh-in...total weight of up to 3 trout wins. On Saturday, November 20th, in conjunction with Georgia Kayak Fishing Association, we will be conducting a kayak fishing seminar through the "Bring A Buddy" program sponsored by GKFA and Coffee Bluff Marina. If you already have a kayak AND have a friend who is interested in the sport of kayak fishing, we will be conducting a 4 hour seminar on kayak fishing for you both. Bring your friend to the seminar and we will provide him or her with the use of a kayak, paddle, and life jacket. We'll go over some fishing techniques for redfish, trout, and flounder, then launch from the marina and our own Coastal Kayak Champion Chris Chappell will guide you and your friend to some good fishing holes and display hands-on techniques for targeting and catching these 3 inshore species. This is the last seminar to be held this year in conjunction with the Georgia Kayak Fishing Association. The cost is $35 per person, or for members of Georgia Kayak Fishing Association, the cost is $25. These rates include the use of a kayak, paddle, and life jacket for your friend, guided half-day fishing for both of you, and a lunch at the marina upon the return of the fishing excursion for all those involved. Please RSVP and sign up early by calling 925-7474, or shooting us an email at gofish@coffeebluffmarina.net. You can also join the Georgia Kayak Fishing Association by following this link - http://www.georgiakayakfishing.com/.
Finally, on Saturday, December 11th, 2010, we will have our 2nd Annual Christmas Light Parade. I hope this brings a lot of folks out to enjoy the coastal resources that exist right here in Savannah, and I know we plan on having a lot of fun!! 2010 should be the best year so far on Coffee Bluff!!
