2nd Annual Coffee Bluff Marina Fish Derby

Update for Saturday, September 4th, 2010

There are currently 19 entries in this year long event with a total purse of $170.

Congratulations to Mr. Jay Turner, pictured above, as the 1st Place Winner of the 1st Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby, which ended yesterday! Jay came from 5th place to 1st by bringing in a tripletail and a whiting with less than 2 weeks to go in the tournament...his name will go on a plaque at the marina as the 1st winner of the 1st Derby, and he wins the pot of $480!! Nice job, Jay!!

The end results of the 1st Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby looked like this:

1st Place is Jay Turner, who caught all 10 species and has a total weight of 52 pounds 8 ounces.

2nd Place is Capt. TJ Ryan, also with all 10 species. TJ has a total weight of 49 pounds 0 ounces.

3rd Place with 10 species is Jerry Case...Jerry's 10 species totaled 36 pounds 0 ounces.

These were the only 3 anglers out of 48 who caught all 10 species required. Jerry Case was the first angler to land all 10 species, and therefore has a free entry in the 2nd Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby, which begins today. Also, we placed the names of the anglers who caught the biggest fish of each species in a hat, and drew from that a name who also wins a free entry in the 2nd Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby. The biggest fish of each species looked like this...

Speckled trout goes to Jay Turner with 4 pounds 14 ounces

Redfish also goes to Jay Turner with 5 pounds 9 ounces

Flounder goes to Troy Gattis with 4 pounds 15 ounces

Spanish mackerel goes to Thomas Bishop with 5 pounds 6 ounces

Whiting goes to Alderman Tony Thomas with 1 pound 3 ounces

Black drum goes to Jay Turner with 7 pounds 10 ounces

Striped bass goes to Matthew Lee with 28 pounds 8 ounces

Tripletail goes to Scott McAllister with 14 pounds 4 ounces

Sheepshead goes to Chip Harris with 10 pounds 2 ounces

Black sea bass goes to Jackson Walker with 2 pounds 14 ounces

Amy pulled the name of Chip Harris from the above list, so Chip has earned a free ride for the upcoming derby!

Thanks to all 48 anglers for putting on quite a show this past year, and we look forward to the new derby beginning today. The Current Leaderboard is blank until some fish come in, but please scroll down to the rules and familiarize yourself with them should you wish to participate.....Let's see if anyone is capable of putting an Ogeechee striper on the board, along with a Florida pompano and a tripletail!!!!!

Rules and Regulations for 2010-2011

* Entry fee is $10 per person.

* The beginning date is September 1st, 2010....the ending date is August 31st, 2011. You can enter at any time throughout the year, but must be registered 1 full week before weighing in any fish.

* All fish must be fresh as determined by the judges, meaning if we won't eat it, it doesn't count!

* You have the entire year to catch 10 species of fish:  Speckled trout, Redfish, Flounder, Striped bass, Tripletail, Spanish mackerel, Whiting, Sheepshead, Black sea bass, and Florida Pompano.

* All fish must be caught on hook and line in coastal Georgia waters, except no fish may be taken from the Savannah River. All fish must be caught south of the Savannah River to St. Mary's River.

* All fish must be legal and weighed in at Coffee Bluff Marina during operating hours.

* Winner is declared by the most species caught by the tournament end date, August 31st, 2011.

* In case of a tie, the tiebreaker is determined by total aggregate weight of all species caught by an individual.

* Fish can be culled throughout the year...in other words, if a participant catches and records a fish for the derby, and then a few weeks later catches a bigger fish of the same species, the bigger fish's weight will take the place of the original fish, allowing the total aggregate weight to be increased.

On Saturday, September 10th, 2011, we will hold an annual Customer Appreciation Sale in conjunction with our scheduled Crab Tournament & Festival, and present a nice plaque and tournament pot to the winner. Hope to see you there! The first person to catch all 10 species receives a free entry in 2011-2012's 3rd Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby...and, we will put the names of the folks who caught the biggest of each species in a hat, and whoever has their name drawn from the hat will also receive a free entry in 2011-2012's Derby!!
